Robert Helenius Steps in to Fight Anthony Joshua on August 12th

Former two time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (25-3 22KO) found a late replacement in an unconventional way. Robert Helenius (32-4 21KOs) will step in to face Joshua after fighting August 5. Helenius scored a third round TKO over Finnish countryman Mika Mielonen.

Dillian Whyte was removed from the card because of a failed drug test. The race to get the Joshua payday was on. There was inquiries from several heavyweight contenders who was not the right fit. Helenius for his part, was realistic in negotiations and the deal to fight Joshua was easy to make.

Joshua's final hurdle before the proposed mega fight with Deontay Wilder in January 2024 comes against Helenius. Ironically, Wilder scored a highlight reel first round knockout over Helenius on October 15, 2022. Joshua is looking to do the same on August 12th.
