IBF Will Not Sanction Anthony Cacace vs Josh Warrington Title Fight; IBO Will Be Up For Grabs

Anthony Cacace (22-1 8KOs) will not defend his IBF junior lightweight title against former champion Josh Warrington (31-3-1 8KOs) on September 21st at Wembley Stadium. IBF has refused to to sanction this contest because Warrington is 1-3-1 in his last five fights and is currently on a two fight losing streak.

Cacace 35, won the IBF title in May 2024 by stopping Joe Cordina (17-1 9KOs) in the eight round. With the win, Cacace inherited the IBF mandatory challenger Eduardo Nunez (27-1 27KOs). Nunez agreed to step aside to allow Cacace-Warrington to bolster Wembley Stadium undercard. Cacace will now defend his IBO title against Warrington.

IBF release a clarification letter to outline the current junior lightweight title situation below:

●Should Anthony Cacace lose his bout against Josh Warrington on September 21, 2024, the IBF tile shall become vacant effective immediately.

●Should Josh Warrington win on September 21, 2024, the title shall become vacant effective immediately.

● Should Anthony Cacace win on September 21, 2024, he must make a mandatory defense of the IBF Jr. Lightweight title against #1 ranked mandatory contender Eduardo Nunez within 180 days or by March 20, 2025.

●The IBF will not consider any further requests to delay the mandatory defense of the IBF Jr. Lightweight title including a Unification defense.

●Anthony Cacace and Josh Warrington must agree in writing to the conditions requiring IBF sanction of this bout.
