Chris Eubank Jr (33-3 24KOs) is the number one contender in the WBO middleweight division and his position is being evaluated. The WBO issued a letter to Team Eubank to inform them of their intentions to order a mandatory fight with unified WBO and IBF Champion Janibek Alimkhanuly (15-0 10KOs) when it is due in July 2024.
Eubank Jr 34, his fresh off a dominating 10th round stoppage victory over Liam Smith in a rematch on September 1st. Smith shockingly stopped Eubank Jr in the 4th round of their January 21st fight. Eubank Jr regrouped with his new team and looked at his best under the guidance of Coach Brian McIntyre and staff.
The WBO is waiting for the proposed December 23rd fight between Eubank Jr-Conor Benn to take place before ordering a mandatory fight for the middleweight title. With a win, Eubank Jr's mandatory position will become valid. The date December 23rd is not official pending the announcement of the Undisputed Heavyweight fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk which could take that date. Fury is fighting Francis Ngannou on Saturday October 28th. A possible announcement for Fury-Usyk could be made on fight night.
Janibek 30, unified the middleweight division on October 14th by stopping the out gunned former IBF Champion Vincenzo Gualtieri in six rounds.
